Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 19, 2026
1. Who we are
Nursing Home Match (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website at nursinghomematch.com, an independent, non-commercial directory that helps families search and compare nursing homes in the United States and residential aged care homes in Australia using official government quality ratings.
We are not a healthcare provider, broker, or referral service. We do not place residents, sell leads, or earn commissions from any nursing home listed on the site.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy explains what information we collect when you use our website, why we collect it, how it is stored and shared, and the rights you have over it. It applies to all visitors regardless of country and is designed to meet requirements under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles.
3. Information we collect
a. Information you provide
Our core directory features (search, compare, browse) do not require an account. If you contact us by email, we receive the contents of your message, your email address, and any information you choose to include.
b. Information collected automatically
- Device and browser type, screen size, operating system, and language preference.
- IP address (used for approximate geolocation and abuse prevention, then truncated).
- Pages viewed, referring URLs, search terms entered on our site, and time on page.
- Error reports and performance metrics from your browser.
c. Information we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect health information about you, your family members, or any care recipient. Searches you run on our site are not associated with an identifiable person. We do not sell personal information and have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
4. How we use information
- To operate, maintain and improve the website and its search experience.
- To measure aggregate usage so we can prioritise features and content.
- To detect, prevent and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents and outages.
- To respond to enquiries you send us by email or our contact form.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
Our legal bases under GDPR are (i) our legitimate interest in operating an accurate public directory, (ii) consent where required (for non-essential cookies), and (iii) compliance with law.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of first-party cookies and local-storage entries that are strictly necessary for the site to work (for example, remembering which facilities you have added to the compare tool). We may also use privacy-respecting analytics that aggregate pageview data without persistent identifiers.
We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. You can block cookies in your browser settings; doing so may disable features such as the compare tool.
6. How we share information
We share information only in the limited circumstances listed below:
- Service providers that host the website, deliver content, and provide error monitoring, bound by contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
- Legal compliance when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Nursing Home Match, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will provide notice before personal information is transferred.
We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties.
7. International transfers
Our infrastructure may process data in the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Where personal information is transferred outside your home country, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms recognised under the Australian Privacy Principles.
8. Data retention
We retain server logs for up to ninety (90) days for security and diagnostic purposes, then delete or anonymise them. Email correspondence is retained only as long as needed to address your enquiry and any follow-up. Aggregated analytics that cannot be linked to an individual may be retained indefinitely.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. ICO in the UK, CNIL in France, OAIC in Australia, your State Attorney General in the US).
To exercise any of these rights, email us using the address in section 13. We respond to verified requests within thirty (30) days.
10. Children
Our website is intended for adults seeking care information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under sixteen (16). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical and physical safeguards including HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security review of our hosting providers. No internet transmission or storage system is one-hundred-percent secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Third-party links
Pages on Nursing Home Match link to external resources such as Medicare.gov Care Compare and My Aged Care. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites — please review their own policies before submitting information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, post a notice on the site. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
14. Contact
